Day Like This

Do you ever feel like you’re not a good enough mother or sometimes just need a vacation? I had one of those days when from the moment you wake up nothing is going right! Which made me think of this article I read not too long ago by Renee Swope, about wanting to turn in her pink slip, which made me feel on days like this it is OK, because I know I am not the only mother who has days of struggle. http://www.proverbs31.org/devotions/day-i-almost-quit-2013-02/

First the furnace wasn’t working and it should it is only a year old! I tried to fix it with no luck, hubby is gone on work train, so don’t have his mechanical skills. But I am thankful it is not a cold day, just a chilly damp rainy day.

Because of the rain, our internet doesn’t work very well, so wasn’t able to get some work done or put together a birthday gift. Today would be the perfect day to get these done. Guess that wasn’t supposed to be the plan today.

The dog ran off out of his boundaries, which was a first but of course on a day when hubby is gone and the neighborhood bully dog was out, so that worried me. So thankful for my neighbors help!

My house is driving me a bit nuts because of the floor remodel. I am a bit OCD with how I like things. But I need to remember how blessed I am to have this house.

My boy challenges me, really it's not him, because he is a sweet little guy. It is me not understanding why boys do the things they do, but I am starting to understand his boyism’s. The book Wild Things, The Art of Nurturing Boys has been so eye opening and explains so much. More on that later, I have just started reading this book. I would definitely recommend this to moms of boys and I only have 1. I am also reading Bringing Up Girls, which has some helpful information. That would be another parenting book I would recommend.

I feel in stand still with my God-sized dreams that are on my heart, so been praying and waiting and waiting!! Oh the wait is hard, but I have to trust in the process and God’s timing.

One of my close friends was given news of a life-changing medical condition a couple days ago. Which just breaks my heart for her and I want to scream NOT FAIR!!!

Playing with the kids was fun and did bake some muffins that are yummy! I got some cleaning done too, not the regular stuff, but the nitty-gritty stuff. So now my bathrooms, kitchen, microwave, and toaster sparkle!! When I feel stressed or dealing with anxiety, it helps me to do something and cleaning is great task to complete, reduce stress and house is cleaner! Something about things being clean is so cleansing for me and can put me back in the right perspective! Funny how God works sometimes!

Now I am going to look up some Bible verses to study, which will be a great way to end the day and count more blessings!!  Psalm 103 seems like a great place to start! Praying for some sunshine! Something about the sun!

Some recent blog favorites!

Posting a few of my favorite blog posts I have read recently that have spoken to my heart and maybe speak to yours too.

http://holleygerth.com/god-sized-obedience/ This blog post will inspire you to go after your God size dreams and take action! "God-sized dreams take girl-sized obedience. And unfortunately it’s not just the submission part of obedience but that action part as well. To seize the future God has graciously purposed for me, I have to obediently pursue it."

http://sarahmae.com/2013/04/i-have-some-gifts-for-you-maid-service-candles-desperate-dvds-oh-yes/ I am super excited a DVD is coming out for the book Desperate~Hope for the mom that needs to breathe! Can't wait to read and study this book with other mama's!! I have read bits and pieces of the book and love it so far! This is on my book to read next pile, yes I have a pile of books!

http://www.handsfreemama.com/2013/04/23/living-off-the-web/ Something I need to do and often! I am going to follow this lady's lead and it is the perfect time to do it with the beautiful weather and all the outside activity to enjoy!

http://www.jillsavage.org/?p=5424 Since having children my patience level has improved greatly, but there are some-days I still struggle. So glad to know I am not the only one, as I hear this from many mom's. If you struggle, read these 3 reasons why I should be a patient mom...

http://www.unexpected.org/2013/04/dating-for-moms/ This article made me laugh because I related to it, because of the 7 moves in the last 8 years. Making friends as an adult isn't always easy. I have been blessed with many friends throughout those moves and so thankful for my fourth bases friends!! Which made me think of this quote:
“Friendship is born at the moment when one person says to another “What! You too? I thought I was the only one. ” CS Lewis

Who loves to be organized? Review and a Freebie

So many of you will love this book!! I received the wonderful opportunity to review a free copy of Getting It Together by Kayse Pratt.

I love, love this book!! First of all it is a quick read but to the point, so you can quickly start working on putting your Home Management Notebook together!! Why would having a Home Management Notebook change your life? Here is the perfect reason from the author and I couldn't agree with her more: "No, being organized won’t accomplish world peace. It won’t make you love cleaning, and it won’t counteract the tornado-toddler issue. But it will most denitely bring a little more peace to your home." Now who doesn't want a little more peace and I would add simplicity!! Plus helps everyone else that is in your home from hubby to the babysitter. Everything, is organized all in one place!

Not only is it a quick and easy to understand read, I was also able to put together my Home Management Notebook in less then 15 minutes!! So that means it is not complicated, which is great, because I don't do complicated!

This book includes a complete step-by-step instructions of how to create your own with over 30 FREE printables!! Plus there so cute!! Here are some of the printables you will find.
  • calendars
  • finances
  • menu plans
  • cleaning lists
  • babysitter info/tips
  • emergency info
  • exercise log
  • food journal
  • inventory lists for books/DVDs
  • planning lists
  • family records
Here are some pictures of our Home Management Notebook that I used in my notebook, I have the important pages completed, can't wait to use the others, such as meal planning, blogging, budgeting, inspiration!!
I put mine in a purple manual, because I like purple and added a verse to mine.

I used colored tabs, to help separate.

A few of the different printables you can put in your own home management notebook.

I LOVE how encouraging she is!! This will help keep our homes functional and organized, what a blessing!!

Review of The 5 Love Languages of Children

I've heard a lot about The 5 Love Languages, but just haven't read one of the books until now. I recently read The 5 Love Languages of Children which I feel is helping me to communicate with my children better and discipline in away that is more effective and also helpful in seeing the needs of my husband too even though the book is geared for children. The book is broken down into twelve chapters, the first is about the foundation and then the next five chapters is focused on each of the love languages. It provides very detail explanation of each of the love languages along with examples, for me it was a little too much detail, but very informative.
Chapters 7-10 were my favorite chapters of the books since it dealt with how to figure out your child's love language, how to best discipline, how to best learn, and how curb anger. At the end of the book there are some suggestions for games to play with older children to help find their love language.I would definitely recommend this book, especially for the discipline part it was worth it for me.
Here is the web-site to check out more of the book, along with some free resources. http://www.5lovelanguages.com/resource/the-five-love-languages-of-children/
*I received a copy of this book from the publisher for the purpose of this review.

I am a book addict...

OK so is that really all that bad? In the picture you can see some of the books I am reading or have read, and these are mostly all in the last couple years, yikes!! I have a few more in my bedroom and I also have a kindle full of eBooks too! I have received some of these books free from other blogs and because of my love of reading books I recently started doing reviews for a couple different companies. The perk of reviewing for companies, is I read some books I may not normally read and there free, so I am not out any money. Maybe just some time, but I do get to choose what books I want to review from these companies based on my interest, which basically is nonfiction christian books. So far I have enjoyed the books I have had the option to review. You maybe thinking when does she have time to read books with two little kiddos? Well with my hubby's work schedule, I often get a lot of me time after the kids are in bed and that is when I chose to spend some time reading and it is relaxing to me.

Another great plus is when I review a book for a company, they will often give me the opportunity to give one free book/DVD away. So watch my blog for opportunities to get a free book/DVD. Right now this is the book I have to give-away, so be sure to check it out. http://ajourney4life.blogspot.com/2013/04/review-and-give-awayhey-god-ive-got.html

So what relaxes you? What are some of your favorite books? It would be hard for me to choose favorites, because I have enjoyed all the books I have read for one reason or another. But I have to say recent favorites, would be 1000 Gifts, Unglued, No More Perfect Moms, and Interrupted. Now my ultimate favorite and book I always go to is the Bible. It is the book I study, find verses to pray with, help me with struggles, direct/guide me and do my best to live up to God's Word for me.

My family and a week of doctor visits!

My family is the most important thing I have on this earth, which I am sure about everyone I know would say about their families too! God had definitely blessed me with so much and I am so thankful for all He has given me!

 Cuties they are!

Me and my fav little man!

Earlier in the week, enjoying spring weather!!

Last week was full of doc appointments for our family, plus we had one additional one that was unexpected. So thankful for the good doctors we have and health insurance, thanks to my hubby's job! Aidan was the first, he had his two year checkup on Monday, yes I am still in shock that my little man is two!! He is doing great, healthy and growing!! At two he weighs 24lbs 14oz. and is 33" tall. Tuesday I then had the consult appointment at the oral surgeon's office, that I was a bit nervous about, but was thankful when the doc said everything is normal!! Then Thursday I had my first mammogram, guess that is what happens when you turn 39!
Then an unexpected accident happen Thursday night. Abigail landed wrong from flipping over a ball at gymnastics. Daddy had taken her that night, so I missed out on being there. It was obvious she did something to her shoulder and the way she was acting, so we decided she needed to have it looked at right away, so hubby took her to the ER and me and little man waited patiently at home (ok I was not so patient, but Aidan kept me busy and I prayed). She was so scared about going, but once she got there, I heard she did well and she was blessed with a bear and many stickers from the staff. The results, she broker her collar bone. Just like her dad did when he was little, I sure hope we are not going to follow in his foot-steps with the many bone breaks he had when he was little, oh my! I also thought Aidan would be the one to break a bone, with they way he is so active and no fear. For those that haven't experienced a collar bone break, it has to heal on it's own, they do nothing, you get a sling to wear if you want, but it does nothing to help heal, just more to let others know you have an injury and to be cautious. But you know kids they are resilient and she woke up the next day ready to play, was in a little pain but she didn't let that stop her. She still wanted to go to school. I tell ya she is tough like her mama!! ;) Anyhow she should be all healed up in about 4-6 weeks. I want to thank all the people that are praying for her, when I told her she thought it was nice and was thankful. We have been teaching her to pray for others, so she is seeing how prayer works. God's glory always shine through in everything!
My precious daughter, always beautiful, even in a sling!

This Is Our Time movie and give-away!!

This Is Our Time presented by Pure Flix

I recently watched this wonderful, inspiring, thought provoking movie! I highly recommend this movie to everyone, one of the best movies I have seen in a while. It is about 5 college grad friends who learn to trust God and find God's calling their life in the real world. Two of the 5 friends marry and serve as missionaries for Embrace A Village (which is an actual ministry). Another friend works in the corporate world, another in media, and one in a cafe. There is a professor who gives godly advice to them. They deal with death of a friend and how to find meaning after loss. What they learn is about being obedient to God's timing, that it is really about God's time, not your time, and finding out who they are meant to be. What is God asking you to be?
I am excited to share with one of my lucky readers there very own DVD of this movie, FREE!! All you have to do is make a comment and I will select a winner randomly on April 15.
Here are some details about the move and release:
This Is Our Time will release on DVD and Blu-Ray on Tuesday, April 16. It will be available nationwide at Family Christian Stores and most Christian online and brick-and-mortar retail stores nationwide.

Adventures in Nashville

Friday was a beautiful day, perfect day to be out and about.
First stop was the zoo. The kids loved the monkeys the best and Abigail loved the elephants too, she wanted her picture with one.

Then we headed Centennial Park for the kids to run around and play and to also go check out the Parthenon. It is a full-scale replica of the original Parthenon in Athens. It was built in 1897 as part of the Tennessee Centennial Exposition. It was very grand! Here are some pics of the building and the statue of Athena inside.

Our third stop was a must, The Cheesecake factory.
They have the best food and cheesecake, almost sinful.

Aidan's Birthday Fun

Aidan was blessed with lots of presents and this year really had fun opening them. He loved them all. Thank you to our family for sending gifts and helping to make his day special! Wish we could have celebrated it with you. But we did enjoy some yummy cupcakes!!
This boy has an obsession with boots, he would wear them all the time if he could!

He loves John Deere, can you tell!!?

                                                                    Princess and the superhero!!

Looking at the pretty card his sister made him for his birthday!!

Happy 2years!!

 Waiting patiently!

Finger licking good!!

Happy Birthday Aidan!!!

Our little man turns two today! Can't believe it, seems just like yesterday we moved to Kentucky and he was just a baby. Now he is a full blown toddler!! This boy, loves things all boy. He loves tractors, John Deere specifically, spiderman, golf, playing with his trucks going vroom vroom, running and climbing, can't get enough of being outside, he is all go, go go!! He adores his sister and they love playing together and he just melts his mama and daddy's hearts!! Though at times he is giving me a heart-attack with his full blown adventurous attitude which will serve him well someday. He is loved by many, everyone always complimenting how sweet he is. He doesn't talk a whole lot, because his sister is always talking, but he loves to say no, tractor, spiderman, Bear, puppy, excuse me, cookie, and thank you, along with a few other words here and there. This year we are celebrating two by taking him to the zoo and having family-fun day!! We love you little man, HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!

Aidan a few days old.

About to go stir crazy or so they say...but finding the thanks!

It has been a long weekend of being sick for me, was so looking forward to Monday when the clinic opened so I could get in to see my doc. Really was just hoping I be better by then. Thinking what I had was worse sinus infection ever, since I am prone to those on what seems like a quarterly basis. So first thing I call my docs office, closed because of Tater Day! Ok so what most of you don't know is that Tater Day is a big celebration here every year first week of April during spring break. It is an interesting festival that draws lots of unique people and has nothing to do with taters. But it sure does bring in some good food vendors, fun rides for the kids and they have a big parade, which I am very impressed with for the size of this town, after living in several places. So I have been looking forward to taking the kids for sometime, but got sick. So anyhow, yes lots of places close here on that first Monday due to the parade and start of the festival. Luckily I was able to get into the clinic where I take my kiddos in town next to us. So going in thinking I have bad sinus infection, turns out I have the flu. Oh yes on spring break, but good news I should be feeling better soon. Praying the rest of my family doesn't get it so we can enjoy some of spring break together, since the hubby has planned to take a little time off for it. But yes I am going stir crazy, I am not the best patient. I do not like to sit around, which can be a downfall of mine, but I have been forced to because I really just feel yuck! So this has been a lesson for me. I have learned there are some cute family movies on during the day and it's not so bad taking a little time to sit down and relax. Well it worked out the kids got to go the parade, hubby got in from work and they haven't called him back in yet, so he was able to take them. I was sad to miss out, kind had a pity party while they were gone, because I was thinking about what I was missing out on instead of looking at the blessings and being thankful, which is now what I am looking at. So thankful it worked out that the hubby was home and he got to enjoy that special time with them, because he often misses out on a lot because of his job. Thankful he ran some errands for me. Thankful he is an awesome dad and big help with the kids. Thankful for him making meals and taking care of baths by himself. Thankful for my daughter for being a great little helper and Aidan has been handling it well too. Thankful for the meds that should help me feel better soon. Thankful my sickness isn't anything worse. Thankful for neighbors and friends. Thankful for God for blessing me with all these blessings! There is always something to be thankful for, something God spoke to me when I was reading 1000s Gifts, yes there is that book again that I so recommend for everyone to read!

Here is the best news of the day, super excited and thankful my daughter rode her first pony, so watching all those Flicka movies has paid off. Here's to my little cowgirl!! Might have to look into some horse riding lessons??? :)
