August is coming to an end!

Summer has been good here this summer in Kentucky! Though these last couple weeks have been a little more hot then I like, but not like Texas hot, right my Texan friends!? So looking forward to fall weather, my favorite time of year, with fall festivals, sweatshirts, bonfires, smores, hiking and seeing some beautiful sunsets! Plus I am just excited to get into September, part of the summer I spent wrestling with God and then gave God those struggles and now satan has been been trying to discourage me with distractions and fear. But I know God has it and has already won the victory!! See I am getting smarter, not letting satan get the better of me and recognizing his tactics he tries to use, only because I have been building a deeper relationship with God! Also I have these amazing sisters in Christ that pray and encourage me! So I welcome fall and seeing God's work continue!

I have been leading a Simply Devoted group http://kaysepratt.com/simply-devoted  It has been so encouraging and a blessing to me! Sharing our daily God time with one another and encouraging one another! God has been using this to speak to me, along with some blogs/articles I have read recently and really there are a few more and my time studying His Word, but this is what I want to share with y'all!

I get discouraged and struggle sometimes with anxiety when I fear something, and satan knows that and uses those two things and he also has been using things in my life to distract me from what God wants me to being doing. Lately I haven't let satan get the better of me, but that doesn't mean sometimes I don't feel like a failure, and it is good to know some days, against all odds, it will still be enough!!
If you missed this one today, be sure to go read it now if you are a mom, I loved it and here is why, "If you are worried about being a bad parent, you are probably a good one. You are doing a wonderful job. Parenting is mind-numbingly hard and none of us will be perfect at it and all of us will jack a thousand parts of it, and somehow, against all odds, it will still be enough." http://jenhatmaker.com/blog/2013/08/29/hope-for-spicy-families

OK so I know we all know and heard about Miley by now, and at first I admit I was a bit shocked but I was also feeling sorry for her at the same time. As time went on and the more I thought about it, really we have all made and done some stupid things, I know I have just thankful wasn't on TV! Really is Miley to take all the blame, I don't believe so, we don't know her personal background and also there is the media, and you know MTV did rehearsals and someone was encouraging her, unfortunately it was the wrong encouragement! I have read several articles, some very judging and some much like this one, http://mommyonfire.com/2013/08/29/why-miley-needs-love-and-not-judgement/ and she stated it well "But when we we are called to go against the grain, to love someone who isn’t easy to love, we are being called to Radical Love. And Radical Love is Jesus Love."  God calls us to love our neighbors and the greatest of all is love, I know I don't always love, like I am called to, but I am working on it with God's love!
Matthew 22:36-39 Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the Law? Jesus replied: Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.

This week God has really been speaking to me about distractions, it started Sunday at church with our pastor's sermon and last night in our Wednesday night class which I had no idea what we would be talking about. Yes God you have my attention!! This is the verse we studied and it spoke to me so much. What in my life do I waste time on, what distracts me away from God? ~Isaiah 55:2-3 Wherefore do ye spend money for that which is not bread? and your labour for that which satisfieth not? hearken diligently unto me, and eat ye that which is good, and let your soul delight itself in fatness. Incline your ear, and come unto me: hear, and your soul shall live; and I will make an everlasting covenant with you, even the sure mercies of David.

After my morning today, I am feeling at peace and so blessed! I saw lots of encouragement today and seen God at work!!

Repurposed Kitchen Cabinet

A couple months ago we bought this cabinet from a friend for less then $20.

My hubby took the hardware off and fixed up a few spots on it. I mixed up some chalk paint and put on a couple coats and he finished it up by distressing it and putting the hardware back on. Must say, I really, really like it! It turned out better then I thought and it will store our dogs food, snacks and a few other miscellaneous things we have in our kitchen.

Ten years ago...

Ten years ago August 17, I went on a blind date with a man, whom I now I call my husband. I truly had no expectations when we went on our first date, probably because I was a bit of a broken mess. But let me tell you, it was the best first date I ever had and so glad I went on that date!! Who would have thought we be where we are today?

Since then, we have experienced a lot together, some of them not so happy times, but so thankful we survived those hard times. For that reason I believe in celebrating the little things, because if anyone knew our relationship a few years ago was you wouldn't believe we are still married, and might I say we are very happily married!! So glad we fought for our marriage and didn't give up, because otherwise we would have not been able to experience all the blessings that have since come from that time. Thankful I didn't miss out being with my wonderful amazing husband and terrific father to our children!! So if anyone is having a difficult time in there marriage, never give up, because trust me it will be truly amazing!

So tonight while my hubby is home from work, I am cooking him up a feast for supper! Homemade cucumber salad, low-country boil, and banana bread, some of my hubby's favorites! Then it is family movie night!

Why I love my husband because he is amazing in so many ways, don’t know if I could ever count them all. Let me share with you a few of those things, first he is my best friend and loves me unconditionally (cause Lord knows I am not perfect), he puts the children and I first, he makes me laugh, he is very helpful and can fix and build about anything, he has taught me a lot, he is not afraid of anything, he is strong and makes me feel protected, he is handsome tough looking guy, I know I said this already but an awesome father and I could go on… He truly is my rock, my other half and I know I wouldn't want to do this life without him!!

Today I feel so blessed and thankful for God placing Ryan in my life. Happy Date Anniversary babe!!

AND THEN SOME!!!

PreK and Morning Quiet

Today was Abigail's first day of PreK, this mama is kind of sad, as it will be her last year attending KidsFirst then is on to big school, which I am not looking forward to for so many reasons. We have been blessed with KidsFirst we love the school and all the teachers! Abigail was so excited to go and see some of her friends from last year and meet new one's. This year her brother attends with her two of the three days, so they get to go to school together and mama gets to have two mornings to herself. Though let me tell you I didn't rest, but I did enjoy the quiet, because all day long there are noises here and there and everywhere.  I took a shower and cleaned the kitchen without being interrupted, having to break up an argument about sharing, or having to listen to toys. Yet it did almost feel eerie in a way! I see that I will be able to get so much done in a shorter amount of time without interruptions, but at times I do enjoy those interruptions. I did my workout this morning too and there are mornings when Abigail joins me, so I did miss that as she is the cutest workout partner!

Today was also Aidan's second day of preschool, he really loved the first day and was so excited to put his backpack on this morning!

Here is a first day of PreK picture of Abigail and also one with her brother. Both so excited!!

When I picked them up they both still had smiles on their faces and had a great day! Knowing my children had a great day, makes this mama's heart smile!

First Day of Preschool

It was little man's first day of preschool today! Still can't believe it, seems like yesterday I was hold him in my arms. Now he is going to school learning and making new friends! I thought dropping him off would be hard, as he wasn't very cooperative this morning getting out the door. I thought there be tears, I remember big sister's first day and how we all had tears. Nope not Aidan, he simply smiled and waved goodbye when he left with his teacher. It appears he had a great first day too, love the little report they give!
Aidan not sure he's ready for preschool.

All smiles and ready now!

Looking cool for school!
(This is the picture I wanted to take before school but didn't get it till after school.)

Aidan's first report, hopefully they will continue like this :)

My Little Superhero's

My children have some wild imaginations at times, such a joy sometimes to just sit and observe them! The other day they were playing superman and supergirl, of course Abigail added a crown when she dressed the part. While I was watching them it made me think of 1 Peter 2:9~But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s special possession, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light. and also how we are to be strong Ephesians 6:10-11~Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power.  Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes.
I hope both my children always know how precious and loved they are by me and their dad and God! How in this world we need to put on our armor, God's Word and maybe even a super-cape!

Review~The 21 Toughest Questions Your Kids Will Ask About Christianity..

I recently received the book The 21 Toughest Questions Your Kids Will Ask about Christianity: & How to Answer Them Confidently by Alex McFarland. This book really interested me even though my children are young, however my 4 year old has already begun asking questions about God and heaven. I am sure the questions will only get tougher to answers in the years to come.
The author does a really great job of answering those tough questions Biblically and in an easy way to understand for children. Each chapter includes a short recap,  how to best answer and apply with your family. While reading through this book, I highlighted out many areas in the book to share later on. This book also gave me a better understanding of some of those tough questions that even I have heard some adults ask and at times have ponder myself.

Not only is this a great book for families with children, but I also feel it would be helpful to someone who is a new believer.

I received a copy of this book from Tyndale House Publishers in exchange for an honest review.

Encouragement for Moms

Remember before you became a mom, how you thought you would parent and the things you told yourself how your kids would act, etc...??? I recall some of those things and now just laugh at myself. A few things I have learned so far in my parenting journey is we can't parent alone, we need encouragement and support. Mothers also need other mothers alongside of them, that understand and can share with one another. We also need mentors to share wisdom. Most important we need Jesus and the grace that He gives!! For those that haven't heard, coming soon to Marshall County is Moms Connect!! A time for moms to connect with one another and study God’s Word in an encouraging supportive environment. If you would like more information please contact me or check out our facebook group https://www.facebook.com/groups/150303531830101/ In addition feel free to check out The Mom Initiative http://stephanieshott.com/the-m-o-m-initiative/  who we are affiliated with for some helpful resources and information to encourage and inspire you.

“There are no perfect friends, just fellow moms, trying to do their best and discovering there is more joy in doing life together.” – A quote by Jill Savage from her book No More Perfect Moms which we will be discussing during our Bible study time.

Here are a couple encouraging articles for moms I read this week:

I didn’t realize that motherhood would be one of the hardest and yet most fulfilling things I would ever do. - See more at: http://sarahmae.com/2013/07/what-i-thought-about-motherhood/
