Friday Rewind - Counting blessings and Learning

We had another great week at Raising Arrows!! This homeschool journey blesses my life so much! Years ago I wanted to go to school to become a teacher, but another opportunity arose that I took and right before I found out I was pregnant with our second I had planned to go back to school for early education, well being pregnant put a stop to that for me. As I knew having a toddler and being pregnant was not the right timing. Well all those things I desired to want to do, have finally happened. God gives us dreams and desires, but HIS plan were different then mine (oh and if you are looking for a great book about God's desires for you read Longing for Paris). HE was preparing me for homeschooling my little one's! There have been trying moments on this journey we are taking, but God has given me friends in this journey to encourage me and most important HIM to rely on when I am feeling defeated. That isn't just in homeschooling, it is in my everyday life too!!

We also had another great day at co-op and enjoyed pizza day, and some people worry that homeschoolers are not "socialized" or know how to relate in being in the "outside" world. This week we finished up learning about people of the world, I even learned a few things. It is eye opening to see all the different type of people that live on the earth. We learned about their beliefs and traditions. We also learned about how people live and survive in different parts of the world. One fact that really stuck out to us, is that at least 50% of the people living on this earth do not get enough food to eat in a day. I was aware that there is large portion that live in poverty and are starving, just didn't realize it was that high! We have are so thankful for organizations like Kids Against Hunger and friends of ours that our missionaries. We have been involved with helping but it just made me realize there is so much more to be done and if we all just provided or helped in some way, it would change many, many more lives.

This week I messaged a friend and said I feel like I am under a bus, the weight of a hurt was weighing heavy on my heart. However, she knew the right words I needed and was there to encourage me. Thankful for her and she knows just the right way to make me smile. Not all can do that! Each of us was placed on this earth for someone! Yes we all need each other, but we can not relate to all. Each of our walks are different, so don't be afraid to share your story and reach out to someone, you may just be that someone they need!

God thank you for opening my eyes to so much this week, for friendships, and for the beautiful weather we had. So much to be thankful for!!

Aidan is starting to love reading, in short amounts!

Encouraging reads:

It’s true those who try to steal joy are hard people to love – but the cliche of “hurting people hurt people” is also true. Joy-stealers are still in the dark – as we once were, too.

Just love this, so good…If the enemy can capture our hearts and fill it full of untruths about our identity in Jesus, he’s won the battle. We cannot mother well if we don’t know that we know that we know that Jesus has chosen us and equipped us for this work called mothering. And we can’t know that if we waiver on the simple truth that Jesus loves us with wild abandon and He loves our children with the same love. So instead of giving you a How-To list, I’m going to give you a Things To Remember list. How’s that?

In these times, He doesn’t let us go. God calls us to wait, He calls us to be patient. He meets us in this place. No matter what this season looks like, we are covered in abundant amounts of grace. Grace covers all things. Even in the darkness when we can’t see the light. He longs to lift us up and bring us to His light.

We need women who pour into our lives and allow us to know and love them. Friendships are no small thing — in fact, they are hugely important.

Homeschooling can be a source of great joy, but it is also a lot of work and a serious responsibility.  The act of buying flowers to commemorate another step in the journey is a way to acknowledge that homeschooling is significant and important in your life

Homeschooling is a wonderful form of education. I love it. (Well, not always.) But here are few reasons you might *not* want to do it:

Dear homeschooling-mama (including me), let us keep eternity in the forefront of our minds as we guide our dear students.

Sunday Joy~Lift my eyes

What a Lord we have, He is faithful! Where does my help come from? I lift my eyes to the Maker of heaven and earth. He watches over me and protects me forever!

I will lift up my eyes to the mountains;
From where shall my help come?
My help comes from the Lord,
Who made heaven and earth.
He will not allow your foot to slip;
He who keeps you will not slumber.
Behold, He who keeps Israel
Will neither slumber nor sleep.
The Lord is your keeper;
The Lord is your shade on your right hand.
The sun will not smite you by day,
Nor the moon by night.
The Lord will protect you from all evil;
He will keep your soul.
The Lord will guard your going out and your coming in
From this time forth and forever.
Psalm 121

Friday Rewind~Thankfulness and Encouragement

Have you ever questioned God? Well I have, many times! Recently He led me down a path that I was questioning HIM about, so I say OK yes Lord....and then all the sudden big stop signs! Really, what was the purpose and then I sit and I ponder and ask, I think He just wanted to know if I would be obedient and be willing, and yes possibly learn a few things and I did! People, God never did say the journey would be easy, nope it isn't in the Bible, and if you find it let me know! However, HE did say it would be worth it!! Romans 8:18  For I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worth comparing with the glory that is to be revealed to us.

God being the awesome God HE is, gave us each other, to lean on and encourage one another. So thankful for those that God has placed in my life, just for that purpose!!  However, there are times in my life I haven't always experienced that, so I built walls up to protect myself, but that doesn't help, because it also keeps those people out that do want to love and encourage you. Something I have learned greatly these last few years!

I desire to live by HIS great commandments that  Jesus gave us to "love one another" (Matthew 22:36-40). Jesus lived that through all He endured. I am so thankful for His leading and teachings! I still have a lot to learn, but it is part of the journey He gives us!

This week in school, we completed week three and attended our first co-op day on Thursday! This is one of the most well organized things I have been involved in and that says a lot coming from this organizing geek! We had a fun time, kids loved it and a plus Abigail made and brought home brownies for her first day of cooking class! Aidan is enjoying preschool, he loves coming home and working on home-work. Yes he gets homework from his preschool, it is just one worksheet to provide extra practice and he gets a sticker if he completes it and returns it. He finished his first worksheet and proudly showed me his sticker he got, so I may have to use the sticker system next year for motivation when he starts kindergarten next year with us! Abigail doesn't need motivation, she just loves to hear she is doing a great job or a pat on the back! All that got me thinking, I need to sit down and look at their learning styles and also mine. This helps to see where we are similar and where we are different. In addition, it will help us in relating to one another better, but also help in learning and teaching. I was not too surprised by the results and mine were spot on for me. So I have to hope theirs are too, as I had to help in answering questions for both of them. I used The WholeHearted Learning Test from Educating the WholeHearted Child by Clay and Sally Clarkson, this book has been a big help for me in many ways, so I do recommend it for homeschoolers.
Abigail's main learning style is facts and values, personality is helper, mental focus is reflective, and life orientation is time.
Aidan's main learning style is insights and logic, personality is shaper, mental focus is active, and life orientation is experience.
Myself main learning style is insights and values, personality is mover, mental focus is reflective, and life orientation is time.
Here are snapshots of test with our results and explanation of one of my areas. The book goes into a lot more detail then what I have shared here. Of course as they age, it is possible these areas will change. It was a little difficult to answer some of the areas for them, but for me, I know myself so it was easy.

Encouraging reads:

We see signs everywhere but nothing is clear; Confusing, complicated, disappointing and hard. Obedience is all of these things.

Love this…unfortunately I am about the age the author is writing this from, ha…An Open Letter From My 42 Year-Old Self To My 28 Year Old Self Who Is About to Begin Homeschooling

You are not your mistake. You are not your failure, your disappointment, or your wish-I-would’ve-done-that better or different or not at all. Perhaps the fact that you stumble shouldn’t be so shocking as it is certain. Necessary. Formative for becoming the best version of yourself as you navigate experience, humanity, humility, pride, and your very small place in the world. Paying attention is vital to becoming, and it’s hard and messy and painful and beautiful all at the same time.

True freedom is possible only through Jesus. Why?

Open your heart to hear the Lord and His voice. Quiet your heart and just listen. Then ask yourself:
